Ryan B. Eads, MD

Specializes in minimally invasive sports medicine surgeries including shoulder and knee arthroscopy, as well as shoulder and knee reconstruction, cartilage transplant, and joint preservation.

Dr. Eads specializes in the latest techniques in minimally invasive sports medicine surgery including rotator cuff repairs, labral repairs, SLAP repairs, ACL reconstruction, meniscal surgery, and Tommy John elbow repairs. Joint preservation, knee cartilage transplant, and shoulder replacements are part of his expertise as well.

Dr. Eads received a bachelor’s of science in Biology from the University of Kentucky where he graduated as Summa Cum Laude “with honors”. He graduated medical school at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine with “High Distinction” where he received an academic scholarship. After medical school he completed an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the prestigious Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN where he received the Program Director’s Award 3 years in a row, followed by a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the world-renowned University of Pittsburgh Medical Center under Dr. Freddie Fu.

Dr. Eads utilizes the most up to date treatments, operative and non-operative, as well as rapid recovery protocols .

Dr. Eads is well-versed in common orthopaedic procedures such as fracture treatment and joint replacement, but with his additional training in Sports Medicine he uses the most up to date treatments, operative and non-operative, as well as rapid recovery protocols to get patients back sooner.

“Often times when we think about sports medicine, people think about professional athletes, but that’s just a small subset of patients. Everyone can suffer from sports medicine related injuries; the high school soccer player, professional running back, weekend warrior, construction worker, and everyone in between.” Dr. Eads has served as a team physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers NFL team, Pittsburgh Penguins NHL team, Memphis Grizzlies NBA team, Memphis Redbirds AAA baseball team, University of Pittsburgh, University of Memphis, Robert Morris University, Carnegie Mellon University and several local high school teams. With the wide breadth of team coverage experience, Dr. Eads is able to treat high school and recreational athletes all the way up to the professional level, as well as understand the unique physical demands of various sports.

“Sports medicine to me is about getting people back to doing what they love doing, as soon as possible,” says Dr. Eads. “Often times that can be accomplished with conservative, non-operative measures, but if those fail, we have a vast array of surgical techniques that offer better, more reliable outcomes through less invasive means than we ever had before.”

Dr. Eads specializes in both operative and nonoperative treatments for musculoskeletal injuries that affect athletic performance and everyday life. Using evidence-based techniques he helps patients perform at their peak level no matter if they are suffering from an acute injury or chronic overuse conditions such as arthritis.

Hip impingement and labral tears, rotator cuff tears, shoulder labrum and SLAP tears, shoulder dislocations, shoulder impingement, frozen shoulder, shoulder arthritis, biceps tears, elbow UCL tears (Tommy John), tennis elbow, ACL/PCL/MCL/LCL tears or the knee, meniscus tears, patella instability, knee cartilage lesions, knee arthritis, and Achilles tendon tears.
