Hip Arthroscopy Surgeon Practicing Near Shepherdsville, KY
The causes of hip pain are often complex and require specialized care. The hip arthroscopy surgeon at Louisville Orthopaedic Clinic, Ryan Eads, MD, takes a conservative approach to treatment, using both non-surgical and minimally invasive techniques to help his patients overcome their pain and return to their active lifestyle.
As an experienced hip arthroscopy surgeon and joint preservation specialist, Dr. Eads believes a natural hip joint is always preferable to a mechanical hip replacement. When performing arthroscopic hip surgery, his goals are to relieve pain, improve function, and prevent future injuries while maintaining the natural anatomy of the joint.
Dr. Eads has earned national recognition for his work as a hip arthroscopy surgeon. He is one of only a few surgeons in the Shepherdsville, Kentucky, area who performs hip arthroscopy to address:
Hip Labral Tears
A labral tear is an injury to the rim of cartilage (labrum) that surrounds the hip joint socket (acetabulum). Serving as a cushioning seal that holds the top of the thigh bone (femoral head) firmly in its socket, the labrum can suddenly tear due to trauma or gradually develop micro-tears through repetitive activities that involve twisting the hip.
Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI) Syndrome
FAI occurs when bony deposits form on one or both bones that comprise the hip. This can alter the shape of the joint and cause the bones to grind together during movement, and the resulting friction can eventually damage the hip.
Greater Trochanteric Bursitis
Greater trochanteric bursitis affects a fluid-filled sac (bursa) near the outer point of the hip (greater trochanter). Like other bursae located near joints throughout the body, the trochanteric bursa can become irritated and inflamed if the nearby joint is overused or injured.
Snapping Hip Syndrome
As an overly tight muscle or tendon passes over the bony protrusion of the hip, a snapping sensation or popping sound may occur. Although snapping hip syndrome is usually more annoying than painful, specialized treatment is important. If left untreated, it may progress into a more serious condition, such as hip bursitis.
