He has extensive surgical training and experience in managing complex and complicated hip and knee replacement cases. By virtue of his experience, he has a passion for managing geriatric fractures.

Dr. Yakkanti has a long association with teaching the art of orthopedic surgery. He was awarded the best resident teacher award on multiple occasions in his role as assistant professor of orthopedics at the University of Louisville. He regularly communicates with his peers, students, and teachers regarding management of complex orthopedic problems. He participates in annual academic meetings of orthopedic societies on a regular basis. Dr. Yakkanti was born in India where he earned his basic medical education and completed his orthopedic residency training. He went on to complete advanced training in managing complex fractures and polytrauma at the University of Louisville, where he also completed an adult reconstruction fellowship. Dr. Yakkanti is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

The Latest Developments in Joint Replacement Surgery. Joint replacement surgery (arthroplasty) may be a viable treatment option for patients who cannot find relief from their symptoms despite several weeks or months of conservative treatment. In the field of joint replacement, Dr. Yakkanti stands at the forefront. He is among a select few orthopedic surgeons who specialize in direct anterior approach hip replacement, a minimally invasive take on joint replacement that allows the damaged joint to be replaced without detaching any tendons. This typically leads to shorter recovery periods and less scarring for patients.

“Hip replacement surgery has one of the highest success rates of any joint replacement procedure,” says Dr. Yakkanti. “It truly does provide life-changing results by restoring comfortable and fluid hip movement.”

In addition to leading-edge hip replacement surgery, Dr. Yakkanti excels in minimally invasive knee replacement procedures that involve muscle-sparing techniques. His expertise in robotic surgery also leads to streamlined treatment for the patients he serves and a more rapid return to everyday activities.

Subspecialty: Total Joint Replacement

When knee or hip joint components become worn or damaged by traumatic injury or years of wear and tear, replacing damaged joint surfaces with prostheses – or implants – can restore mobility and comfort.

Common Injuries Treated by Dr. Yakkanti

Dr. Yakkanti excels in the treatment of all kinds of musculoskeletal disorders, particularly conditions that impact the hip and knee joints as well as the extremities. He commonly cares for patients with arthritis, traumatic injuries, and joint dislocation.

Procedures Performed by Dr. Yakkanti

Dr. Yakkanti’s specialties include direct anterior approach hip replacement, knee replacement, joint reconstruction, soft tissue repair, and other musculoskeletal procedures. He leverages the latest surgical techniques to minimize incisions.

I was able to get a office visit on short notice. It seemed to be a very busy day. Rebecca took the time to listen to all of my issues and discuss a plan for additional treatment. I have always been impressed with her knowledge and bed side manner.
